СТРЕПТОЦИДОВА МАЗЬ 5 % contains sulfanilamide and is used for local effect on certain infectious-inflammatory skin lesions.
Composition
The active substance is sulfanilamide. 1 g of the ointment contains 50 mg (0.05 g) or 100 mg (0.1 g) of sulfanilamide. The auxiliary substance is soft white paraffin.
Indications
The ointment is used for ulcers, burns, cracks, and wounds, as well as for pyodermias, skin eczema, and purulent-inflammatory skin processes that are not accompanied by significant exudation.
Pharmacological properties
The preparation has an antimicrobial effect on streptococci and other microorganisms. Sulfanilamide disrupts the absorption of folic acid and related substances with para-aminobenzoic acid by the microbial cell, competing with it at the level of the microorganism's biochemical systems.
The pharmacokinetic properties of the preparation have not been determined.
