About СТРЕПТОЦИД

СТРЕПТОЦИД is a preparation, the active ingredient of which is sulfanilamide. It has a bacteriostatic effect on microorganisms sensitive to it.

Composition

One tablet contains 300 mg of СТРЕПТОЦИД (sulfanilamide). Auxiliary substances: potato starch and talc.

Indications

The preparation is used for infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to it. Indications include infectious diseases of the skin and mucous membranes, in particular, wounds, ulcers, and bedsores, as well as enterocolitis, pyelitis, and cystitis.

Pharmacological properties

СТРЕПТОЦИД disrupts the formation of folic and dihydrofolic acid and other compounds containing para-aminobenzoic acid in microorganisms. Sulfanilamide, due to its similarity to para-aminobenzoic acid, is included in the metabolic processes of microorganisms and disrupts them, which causes a bacteriostatic effect.

The preparation acts on streptococci, meningococci, pneumococci, gonococci, intestinal bacillus, as well as the causative agents of toxoplasmosis and malaria. It has no effect on anaerobic microorganisms. When taken orally, СТРЕПТОЦИД is quickly absorbed: the maximum concentration in the blood is determined after 1-2 hours, and within 4 hours, it is detected in the cerebrospinal fluid.
