Product Overview
About SHINGRIX
SHINGRIX is a vaccine designed to help prevent shingles (herpes zoster) in adults aged 50 years and older. It contains the varicella-zoster virus glycoprotein E antigen, which stimulates the body's immune system to recognize and fight the virus that causes shingles.
Key Benefits & Uses
- Prevents shingles in adults aged 50 years and older
- Reduces the risk of developing postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), a complication of shingles that can cause chronic pain
- Helps to reduce the severity and duration of shingles symptoms
Active Ingredient & Action
SHINGRIX contains the varicella-zoster virus glycoprotein E antigen, which is a key component of the varicella-zoster virus. When administered, this antigen stimulates the body's immune system to recognize and produce antibodies against the virus, providing protection against shingles.
Important Notes
SHINGRIX is administered as a two-dose series, with the second dose given 2 to 6 months after the first dose. It is recommended that individuals receive the vaccine even if they have had shingles in the past, as it can still provide protection against future episodes. As with any vaccine, SHINGRIX may cause side effects such as pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site, as well as fatigue, headache, or muscle pain. If you have any underlying medical conditions or are taking medications, consult with your healthcare provider before receiving SHINGRIX.
