CINACALCET is a prescription medication used to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism in adult patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on hemodialysis. It is also used to treat hypercalcemia (high calcium levels) in adult patients with parathyroid carcinoma and in adult patients with primary hyperparathyroidism who cannot undergo surgery.

Active Ingredient & Action

CINACALCET (CINACALCET HYDROCHLORIDE) is a calcimimetic agent that works by binding to the calcium-sensing receptors on the surface of the parathyroid gland cells. This binding action increases the sensitivity of the parathyroid gland cells to calcium, which in turn decreases the production of parathyroid hormone (PTH). By reducing PTH levels, CINACALCET helps to lower calcium levels in the blood and alleviate symptoms associated with hyperparathyroidism.
