About ТІМОКСІ

ТІМОКСІ (Tymoxy®) is an antibacterial medication whose active substance is moxifloxacin. The agent belongs to the 8-methoxyfluoroquinolone group and has a broad spectrum of bactericidal action. The medication is intended for the treatment of adult patients aged 18 years and older.

Composition

Each tablet contains 400 mg of moxifloxacin. The core composition includes microcrystalline cellulose, maize starch, hydroxypropyl cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, and sodium stearyl fumarate. The tablet film coating contains polyvinyl alcohol, titanium dioxide (E171), polyethylene glycol, talc, and Sunset Yellow FCF dye (E110).

Indications

ТІМОКСІ is used to treat bacterial infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to the medication, in cases where other antibacterial therapy is ineffective or inappropriate. Indications include acute bacterial sinusitis and exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including bronchitis.

The medication is also used for community-acquired pneumonia (except for severe forms) and moderately severe pelvic inflammatory disease, such as endometritis or salpingitis. The medication is not recommended for use as monotherapy in certain conditions.

Pharmacological properties

Moxifloxacin exerts a bactericidal action by inhibiting topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV, which blocks bacterial DNA replication and repair processes. The medication is effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, including those resistant to macrolides and β-lactam antibiotics.

The specific features of the chemical structure of moxifloxacin contribute to increased activity and reduce the risk of resistance development in Gram-positive bacteria. The medication demonstrates concentration-dependent bactericidal activity.
