About СУЛЬФАЦИЛ НАТРІЮ
СУЛЬФАЦИЛ НАТРІЮ contains sulfacetamide and has a bacteriostatic effect on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria sensitive to the preparation.
Composition
1 ml of drops contains 200 mg or 300 mg of СУЛЬФАЦИЛ НАТРІЮ per 100% substance. Auxiliary components: sodium thiosulfate, 1 M hydrochloric acid solution to pH 8.0, and water for injection. Sulfacetamide — 300 mg/ml.
Indications
The preparation is used for infectious and inflammatory eye diseases caused by sensitive bacteria, including conjunctivitis, blepharitis, and corneal ulcers.
Pharmacological properties
Sulfacyl acts bacteriostatically against streptococci, pneumococci, gonococci, E. coli, chlamydia, and actinomyces. The preparation competes with para-aminobenzoic acid and inhibits dihydropteroate synthetase, resulting in the disruption of tetrahydrofolic acid formation, necessary for the synthesis of purine and pyrimidine bases. This leads to the inhibition of DNA and RNA synthesis in bacterial cells and their reproduction.
After instillation into the conjunctiva, sulfacyl penetrates the eye tissues and acts mainly locally. Part of the preparation may be absorbed through the inflamed conjunctiva and enter the systemic bloodstream.
