About СТОПЕРАН

СТОПЕРАН is a medicinal product, the active ingredient of which is loperamide hydrochloride. The preparation is intended for the symptomatic treatment of diarrhea.

Composition

Each capsule contains 2 mg of loperamide hydrochloride. The auxiliary components include lactose monohydrate, corn starch, talc, and magnesium stearate. The capsule shell is made of gelatin with the addition of dyes: quinoline yellow, erythrosine, patented blue V, and titanium dioxide.

Indications

The preparation is used for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in adults and children over 12 years old. СТОПЕРАН is also used for the therapy of acute episodes of diarrhea associated with irritable bowel syndrome in adult patients who have been previously diagnosed by a doctor.

Pharmacological properties

Loperamide hydrochloride interacts with opioid receptors in the intestinal walls, leading to a decrease in the release of acetylcholine and prostaglandins. This contributes to a slowing of peristalsis, an extension of the passage time of the contents through the digestive tract, and an improvement in fluid absorption. In addition, the agent increases the tone of the anal sphincter, which helps reduce the urge to defecate and fecal incontinence.

After oral administration, most of the substance is absorbed, but due to intense metabolism, the systemic bioavailability is approximately 0.3%. Loperamide has a high affinity for the intestinal walls, and the degree of its binding to plasma proteins reaches 95%.
