About ЦЕФОРТ

ЦЕФОРТ is an antibacterial drug, the active substance of which is ceftriaxone in the form of a sodium salt. The agent belongs to the group of antibiotics and is intended for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections.

Composition

The drug is available in vials containing 1 g or 2 g of the active substance — ceftriaxone (in the form of ceftriaxone sodium).

Indications

ЦЕФОРТ is used for the treatment of adults and children (including newborns) for the following conditions: bacterial meningitis, community-acquired and hospital-acquired pneumonia, acute otitis media, intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infections (including pyelonephritis), infections of bones, joints, skin and soft tissues, as well as for gonorrhea, syphilis, and bacterial endocarditis.

The drug is also used for the treatment of exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, disseminated Lyme borreliosis, bacteremia, and in conditions with neutropenia accompanied by fever. In addition, the agent is used for the prevention of infections before surgical interventions. If necessary, ЦЕФОРТ is prescribed in combination with other antibacterial drugs.

Pharmacological properties

The mechanism of action of ceftriaxone consists of inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. The drug binds to penicillin-binding proteins, which stops the biosynthesis of peptidoglycan, leading to the lysis and death of the bacterial cell.

Bacterial resistance to the drug may occur due to the action of β-lactamases, reduced affinity of penicillin-binding proteins, impermeability of the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria, or the activity of bacterial efflux pumps.
