About ХЛОРГЕКСИДИН

ХЛОРГЕКСИДИН is an antiseptic agent belonging to the cationic biguanides group. The preparation effectively eliminates a wide spectrum of pathogenic microorganisms, providing long-lasting antimicrobial action for at least 6 hours after application.

Composition

The active ingredient of the preparation is chlorhexidine digluconate. In 100 ml of solution, there is 0.25 ml of a 20% chlorhexidine digluconate solution. The auxiliary ingredient is purified water.

Indications

The agent is used for the prevention of infections transmitted sexually, such as syphilis, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, chlamydia, ureaplasmosis, and genital herpes. The preparation is also used for the disinfection of pus-filled wounds and infected ulcers.

ХЛОРГЕКСИДИН is effective in the treatment of skin and mucosal infections in surgical, obstetric-gynecological, and urological practice (including urethritis and prostatitis). In dentistry, the solution is used for rinsing and gargling in gingivitis, stomatitis, aphthae, periodontitis, and alveolitis.

Pharmacological Properties

The mechanism of action involves the penetration of chlorhexidine into the membranes of bacterial cells, where it binds to the cytoplasm. This disrupts the function of the membrane, prevents the uptake of oxygen, and leads to a decrease in ATP levels, causing the death of microorganisms. Additionally, the preparation damages DNA and blocks its synthesis in pathogens.

The preparation shows rapid and pronounced activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (including sexually transmitted infection agents), the simplest (Trichomonas vaginalis) and viruses (Herpes virus).
