About RIVASTIGMIN IC

RIVASTIGMIN IC is a medicinal product containing rivastigmine as the active substance. The drug belongs to the group of cholinesterase inhibitors and is used for the treatment of cognitive impairment.

Composition

One capsule of the drug contains 1.5 mg of rivastigmine.

Indications

The product is intended for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate dementia associated with Alzheimer's disease. The drug is also used for dementia of similar severity in patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease.

Pharmacological properties

Rivastigmine acts as a carbamate-type acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase inhibitor. It slows down the breakdown of acetylcholine released by functional cholinergic neurons and facilitates the improvement of cholinergic neurotransmission. This provides a positive effect on cognitive functions in dementia associated with Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease.

The mechanism of action involves interaction with target enzymes to form covalent complexes that temporarily inactivate them. Upon oral administration of 3 mg of the drug, acetylcholinesterase activity in the cerebrospinal fluid decreases by approximately 40% within the first 1.5 hours, after which enzymatic activity gradually recovers.
