About ФЛАПРОКС
ФЛАПРОКС is an antibacterial medicinal product from the fluoroquinolone group, with ciprofloxacin at a dose of 500 mg as the active ingredient. The preparation exerts a bactericidal effect on a wide spectrum of pathogenic microorganisms.
Composition
Each tablet contains 500 mg of ciprofloxacin. Auxiliary components include microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, crospovidone, sodium carboxymethyl starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, and magnesium stearate. The film coating consists of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, polyethylene glycol, and titanium dioxide (E171).
Indications
The drug is prescribed for the treatment of infections caused by ciprofloxacin-sensitive bacteria. These include lower respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia, exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchopulmonary complications in cystic fibrosis), chronic suppurative otitis media and exacerbations of chronic sinusitis.
Also, ФЛАПРОКС is used for infections of the urinary tract, including acute pyelonephritis, complicated infections, bacterial prostatitis, and uncomplicated cystitis. Among the indications are infections of the genitourinary system, such as gonococcal urethritis, cervicitis, orchitis-epididymitis, and inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs. Before starting therapy, it is necessary to consider official recommendations regarding the use of antibiotics and information on resistance.
Pharmacological Properties
The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of type II topoisomerases (DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV), which blocks critical processes in bacterial DNA, such as replication, transcription, and repair. The effectiveness of the drug depends on the ratio of the concentration of the active ingredient to the minimum inhibitory concentration for a specific pathogen.
Resistance to ciprofloxacin usually develops due to multiple mutations at the target sites (DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV). This can result in varying degrees of cross-resistance to other fluoroquinolones.
