About CEFMA

CEFMA is an antibacterial medicinal product, the active substance of which is cefpodoxime. The drug has a bactericidal effect aimed at combating a wide range of infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to it.

Composition

Each tablet contains 200 mg of cefpodoxime. Excipients include sodium lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, crospovidone, lactose monohydrate, calcium carboxymethyl cellulose, titanium dioxide (E171), talc, and hypromellose.

Indications

The drug is used for the treatment of ENT infections, in particular sinusitis, tonsillitis, and pharyngitis (in cases of chronic or recurrent course or insensitivity to other antibiotics). The agent is also effective for respiratory tract infections, such as acute bronchitis, exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, and bacterial pneumonia.

CEFMA is prescribed for uncomplicated urinary tract infections (cystitis, pyelonephritis), skin and soft tissue infections (abscesses, furuncles, cellulitis, infected wounds, etc.), as well as for uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis.

Pharmacological properties

The mechanism of action of cefpodoxime consists of inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis during their growth. The drug inhibits penicillin-binding proteins, which leads to the destruction and death of bacterial cells.

In vitro, cefpodoxime demonstrates high bactericidal activity against many Gram-positive (in particular Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococci of groups A, B, C, F, G, and Corynebacterium diphtheriae) and Gram-negative microorganisms, including strains of Haemophilus influenzae and Haemophilus parainfluenzae.
