About CEFIKS

CEFIKS is an antibacterial drug belonging to the third-generation cephalosporin group, intended for oral administration. The active ingredient of the product is cefixime in the form of trihydrate.

Composition

Each capsule contains 400 mg of cefixime. Excipients include microcrystalline cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate, croscarmellose sodium, and hydrogenated vegetable oil.

The capsule shell consists of gelatin, purified water, FD&C Blue No. 1 (E 133) dye, and titanium dioxide (E 171).

Indications

The drug is used to treat infectious and inflammatory processes caused by susceptible pathogens. These include upper respiratory tract infections (specifically sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, otitis media) in cases where there is a risk of ineffectiveness of other antibiotics or confirmed pathogen resistance.

CEFIKS is also effective for lower respiratory tract infections, such as acute bronchitis or exacerbation of chronic bronchitis. Furthermore, it is prescribed for urinary tract infections, including cystitis, cystourethritis, and uncomplicated pyelonephritis.

Pharmacological properties

Cefixime exhibits a pronounced bactericidal effect against a wide spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, demonstrating high stability against the action of beta-lactamases. The drug is effective against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, E. coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella species, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Enterobacter species.

It should be noted that most strains of enterococci, staphylococci (including methicillin-resistant ones), as well as Pseudomonas, Bacteroides fragilis, Listeria monocytogenes, and Clostridia are resistant to the action of cefixime.
