About TAZAMAKS

TAZAMAKS is a combined antibacterial drug containing piperacillin and tazobactam. The agent belongs to the broad-spectrum penicillin group and effectively fights various types of bacterial infections.

Composition

Each vial of the drug contains 4 g of piperacillin (as sodium salt) and 500 mg of tazobactam (as sodium salt).

Indications

The drug is prescribed to adults and children aged 2 years and older for the treatment of a number of infectious diseases. These include severe pneumonia (including hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated), complicated urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis, as well as complicated skin, soft tissue, and intra-abdominal infections.

TAZAMAKS is used for bacteremia associated with the aforementioned conditions and for the treatment of fever in patients with neutropenia caused by bacteria. For children aged 2 to 12 years, indications include complicated intra-abdominal infections and fever associated with neutropenia. Official guidelines regarding the use of antibiotics should be followed during administration.

Pharmacological properties

Piperacillin acts as a semi-synthetic penicillin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, affecting Gram-positive, Gram-negative, aerobic, and anaerobic microorganisms. Tazobactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor, which allows for the expansion of the spectrum of activity of piperacillin and overcomes resistance in bacteria that produce these enzymes.

The efficacy of piperacillin depends on the time during which its concentration in the body exceeds the minimum inhibitory concentration (T > MIC). Tazobactam does not affect AmpC enzymes or metallo-beta-lactamases.
