About ILARIS

ILARIS is a prescription medication containing the active ingredient canakinumab, a human monoclonal antibody. It is used to treat certain autoimmune disorders, including systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) and certain forms of cryopyrin-associated periodic syndromes (CAPS).

Key Benefits & Uses

• Treatment of systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) in patients 2 years of age and older
• Treatment of certain forms of cryopyrin-associated periodic syndromes (CAPS), including neonatal-onset multisystem inflammatory disease (NOMID) and chronic infantile neurological cutaneous and articular (CINCA) syndrome
• Reduction of gout flares in adults with frequent or severe gout

Active Ingredient & Action

Canakinumab works by binding to and neutralizing interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), a protein that plays a key role in the inflammatory response. By blocking the action of IL-1β, canakinumab helps to reduce inflammation and alleviate symptoms associated with autoimmune disorders.
