Product Overview
About VFEND
VFEND is an antifungal medication containing the active ingredient VORICONAZOLE. It is used to treat various fungal infections, including invasive aspergillosis, candidemia, and serious fungal infections in patients with compromised immune systems.
Key Benefits & Uses
- Treatment of invasive aspergillosis, including pulmonary and extrapulmonary infections
- Treatment of candidemia, acute disseminated candidiasis, and serious invasive candidiasis
- Treatment of serious fungal infections in patients with compromised immune systems, including those with HIV/AIDS or undergoing chemotherapy
Active Ingredient & Action
VORICONAZOLE is a triazole antifungal agent that inhibits the fungal cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme lanosterol 14α-demethylase. This action prevents the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. As a result, VORICONAZOLE disrupts fungal cell membrane function and ultimately leads to fungal cell death.
Important Notes
VFEND should only be used under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional. It is essential to follow the recommended dosage and administration schedule to minimize the risk of adverse effects. Patients with liver or kidney impairment should be closely monitored when taking VFEND, as the medication may accumulate in the body and increase the risk of toxicity.
