Active Ingredient & Action

PROQUAD contains four live, attenuated viruses: VARICELLA VIRUS LIVE ATTENUATED (OKA/MERCK STRAIN), RUBELLA VIRUS LIVE ATTENUATED (WISTAR RA27/3 STRAIN), MUMPS VIRUS LIVE ATTENUATED (JERYL LYNN STRAIN), and MEASLES VIRUS LIVE ATTENUATED (EDMONSTON STRAIN). These viruses are weakened so that they cannot cause serious illness, but still stimulate the body's immune system to produce antibodies and immune cells that can recognize and fight the viruses if they are encountered in the future.
