About TIOKTODAR

TIOKTODAR is a medicinal product whose active substance is thioctic (α-lipoic) acid. The drug is available as a solution for injection.

Composition

Each milliliter of the solution contains 30 mg of thioctic acid. The excipients of the drug are trometamol and water for injection.

Indications

The drug is used for the treatment of paresthesias occurring in diabetic polyneuropathy.

Pharmacological Properties

Thioctic acid is a vitamin-like substance that acts as a coenzyme in the oxidative decarboxylation of α-keto acids. In diabetes mellitus, hyperglycemia causes the formation of advanced glycation end products, leading to endoneurial hypoxia and nerve damage by free radicals. Thioctic acid helps counteract these processes by improving endoneurial blood flow and contributing to the restoration of the antioxidant glutathione level in peripheral nerves.
