About NUCALA

NUCALA is a prescription medication containing the active ingredient MEPOLIZUMAB, a monoclonal antibody that targets the interleukin-5 (IL-5) protein. It is used to treat severe asthma and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), also known as Churg-Strauss syndrome.

Active Ingredient & Action

MEPOLIZUMAB works by binding to the IL-5 protein, preventing it from interacting with its receptor on the surface of eosinophils. This reduces the production and activation of eosinophils, which are a type of white blood cell involved in inflammation and tissue damage.

NUCALA is administered via subcutaneous injection every 4 weeks. It is essential to follow the recommended dosing schedule and to report any changes in symptoms or side effects to your healthcare provider. NUCALA may increase the risk of infections, including opportunistic infections, and may also cause anaphylaxis, a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
