HALAVEN (Eribulin Mesylate) is a prescription medication used in the treatment of certain types of breast cancer. It is a microtubule dynamics inhibitor, which means it works by interfering with the growth and spread of cancer cells.

Treatment of locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer in patients who have received at least two prior chemotherapy regimens for late-stage disease.
Treatment of unresectable liposarcoma in patients who have received prior chemotherapy.

Active Ingredient & Action

HALAVEN contains the active ingredient Eribulin Mesylate, which is a synthetic analog of Halichondrin B, a natural product isolated from the marine sponge Halichondria okadai. Eribulin Mesylate works by inhibiting the polymerization of microtubules, which are essential for cell division. By preventing cancer cells from dividing, HALAVEN slows the growth and spread of cancer.

Important Notes

HALAVEN is available in 1.23 mg/mL solution for injection. It is administered intravenously over 2-5 minutes every 21 days. Patients should be closely monitored for signs of cardiac toxicity, including decreased left ventricular ejection fraction and cardiac ischemia.
