Active Ingredient & Action

GENVOYA contains four active ingredients that work together to inhibit HIV-1 replication. Emtricitabine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) that inhibits viral replication by interfering with the viral DNA synthesis. Tenofovir alafenamide is an NRTI that also inhibits viral replication by interfering with the viral DNA synthesis. Elvitegravir is an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) that inhibits viral replication by blocking the integration of viral DNA into the host cell genome. Cobicistat is a cytochrome P450 3A (CYP3A) inhibitor that increases the plasma concentrations of elvitegravir and tenofovir alafenamide, enhancing their antiviral effects.
