On Fenefrin 10 %
FENEFрин 10 % is an ophthalmic preparation with phenylephrine hydrochloride as the active ingredient. The product belongs to the group of alpha-1-sympathomimetics and is applied locally to achieve a pronounced vasoconstrictive effect and dilation of the pupil.
Composition
Each milliliter of solution contains 100 mg of phenylephrine hydrochloride (38 drops per ml). Auxiliary components include disodium edetate, benzalkonium chloride, diluted hydrochloric acid, and injection water.
Indications
The preparation is used for quick and effective dilation of the pupil, particularly before performing eye surgeries. The product is also applied to prevent the development of iritis or to destroy synechiae that have developed as a result of this condition.
Pharmacological Properties
The action of the product is based on the activation of alpha-1-receptors in the muscle, which dilates the pupil. The high concentration of phenylephrine (10 %) ensures a pronounced mydriasis and may contribute to a reduction in intraocular pressure. Besides dilating the pupil, the product exerts a vasoconstrictive effect on the conjunctiva, removing its hyperemia. In some cases, after applying the 10 % solution, paralysis of accommodation may occur.
